The Tuscan archipelago, comprising of Elba, Capraia, Gorgona, Pianosa and Montecristo, in the Tyrrhenian Sea, is the biggest protected water area in Europe. All the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago are under the protection of the National Park of the Tuscan Archipelago. Most of the islands are accessible to tourists, with the exceptions of Montecristo and Gorgona.

In Elba, you can visit the old town, enclosed by a medieval wall and fortresses. Here you can see the Villa dei Mulini, Napolean's home, with its splendid terraces and library in Portoferraio. The other villa associated with Napoleon is Villa Napoleonica di San Martino
There are plenty of restaurants along the harbour-front of Portoferraio, Porto Azzuro and Marino de Campo in Elba. Here you can check out fresh seafood, and the usual pizza and pasta. If you are in Elba, you must try the delicious wild-boar stew, served at several of the more traditional eateries. For finer dining options, head inland.
